SCHOLARSHIP |

The Frederick B. Abramson Memorial Foundation Scholarships are awarded to economically disadvantaged District of Columbia public high school seniors to help defer college expenses at a four-year accredited institution. The recipients must possess solid academic records and have demonstrated in concrete ways an interest in serving the community or public interest goals. In 2005, eighteen scholarships were distributed.

- Graduating in the Spring of 2008 from a public senior high school located in the
District of Columbia
- Admission to and commitment to attend an accredited four-year college in the
United States as a candidate for a degree
- Demonstrated commitment to community service and social change
- Economic need
- Solid academic record demonstrated by an overall 2.75 GPS or better and at least 1000 between math and verbal SATs and at least a score of 3 and above on the essay section of the SAT (guidelines)
- Family income less than $70,000

Review Process:
|
|
|
The Foundation Board of Directors will review applications and make determination of award(s) in June 2008. Applicants will be notified of status in writing by the beginning of June. |

Application Packet (please send all materials together): |
|

- Essay (described on the application)
- Two (2) letters of recommendation (one from a counselor, one from a teacher)
- Proof of income - the first page of the most recent IRS 1040 form of the parent(s) or
guardian(s) with whom you live and/or who financially support you
- A copy of your college Financial Aid Application or Student Aid Report
- Official school transcript through mid term period of second semester senior year, including your SAT scores
- Budget for preferred college: full cost of attending college, room and board, travel, books, miscellaneous and listing of other scholarships received or pending
- Letter of Acceptance from college of choice
- Financial Aid Award letter from college of choice (if you have it by time of due date)
